For New York cheesecake at Denny’s-occasional treats
Of popsicles in the summer dripping with sticky sweetness
Brought from the ice-cream truck by my dad
I’m from the desert, Sunday novels, movie theatres
rough player, clumsy two left feet, Capri sun juice, and stickers-
playing kickball in the grass across Sol Market, bike ridding
around the housing under construction-scorching heat, dirty, and
dogs barking over the cement wall
I’m from tortilla and fried beans
I am a valley girl
